Bach flower remedies also known as flower essence therapy is a form of alternative medicine which uses flower material in a 50:50 solution of water and brandy. Bach flower remedies are named after English physician and homeopath Edward Bach who developed the flower essence therapy in the 1930′s. Flower remedies are believed to be helpful for series of problems but are primarily intended for emotional and spiritual conditions are most commonly used to relieve stress, depression and sleeping difficulties.
Edward Bach believed that the majority of physical diseases and disorders are caused by emotional problems and stress and that flower essences are effective for psychological problems. He developed a dozen flower remedies using intuition and self-observation and named them the Twelve healers which were later followed by additional 26 remedies. Each Bach flower remedy was aimed to treat particular negative emotion for example fear, anxiety, etc. The best known flower remedy is probably the Rescue Remedy which contains Rock rose, Impatiens, Clematis, Star of Bethlehem and Cherry Plum and is used for treatment of stress, anxiety and panic attacks.
No side effects of Bach flower remedies have been reported. Flower remedies are said to be safe even for pregnant women but if being pregnant you are recommended not to use Bach flower remedies because they contain alcohol. Bach flower remedies are used as supplementary treatment and cannot replace the conventional therapy or treatment. There are no known drug interactions of flower remedies but if you take any medications you are highly recommended to consult your health care provider before using any kind of remedies including Bach flower remedies.
