Homeopathy is a very popular alternative medicine and some homeopathic treatment is even covered by the public health service in several countries of the European Union. Homeopathy introduced by German physician Samuel Hahnemann at the end of the 18th century bases on theory that “like cures like” or law of similarity. The homeopaths believe that substances which cause symptoms similar to those of the disease in a healthy person can be used for treatment.

Homeopathy promotes healthy diet and healthy lifestyle which are believed to be crucial for general health and overall well-being. Symptoms of a disease are considered as a sign that body defends itself against the disease, while the main purpose of homeopathic treatment is to encourage the body’s self-healing abilities. Homeopathic treatment commonly involves taking of homeopathic remedies which are selected on basis of totality of symptoms. With rare exceptions, homeopathic remedies are generally considered safe if used as directed.

The efficacy of homeopathic treatment is still a matter of debate, while the results of clinical studies conducted so far were inconclusive. Homeopathy is being primarily criticized for advising the patients against conventional medications and there have been cases of death due to rejection of conventional medicine. If suffering from serious medical condition and taking any medications you are highly recommended to consult with your health care provider before starting any new treatments including homeopathy which would require from you to give up your current treatment or medications.
