Massage therapy is one of the most popular methods for both physical and emotional relaxation. It is also very helpful for relieving of a wide range of health issues and is often  recommended as a supplementary treatment of certain health problems by the mainstream physicians. Massage is compatible with series of other alternative forms including aromatherapy, acupressure and shiatsu.

There are several massage methods which are used to relax muscles, improve blood circulation, relieve the pain as well as to relieve the symptoms of various health problems, while acupressure and shiatsu use massage to stimulate the qi, an invisible life energy. Choosing a massage method might be a challenge but the majority of people report experiencing positive effects after different massage methods. The massage itself commonly depends on your health condition and thus the massager might focus on specific part or parts of the body. Massage should not cause pain although you might feel some discomfort during the session. You are recommended not to eat for at least 30 minutes before your massage session and avoid alcohol before the massage.

Massage is appropriate for all age groups and is considered safe and effective for many medical conditions. However, you are advised against massage therapy if having fever and not to allow massage of inflamed, injured or recently operated areas of the body. You are highly recommended to consult with your health care provider if massage therapy is appropriate and safe if having unexplained pain, swollen joints or a medical condition.  Pregnant women should avoid massage of lower abdomen.
